On November 13, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of our journal Andrei V. Naumov celebrated his 50th anniversary.
Andrei Naumov is a Russian physicist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice President of the International Commission on Optics, specialist in selective laser spectroscopy and fluorescence nanoscopy of impurity condensed media and nano-objects, teacher and popularizer of science.
Andrei Naumov develops in Russia the scientific direction of multiparameter fluorescence nanoscopy – far-field spectral-selective diagnostics of the structure and relaxation dynamics of solid media with nanometer spatial resolution with detection of spectra and images of single molecules – nanoprobes. He developed a technique for measuring individual parameters of low-energy elementary excitations of tunnel and vibrational types in solid media, the density of vibrational states, and parameters of local fields in solid media based on cryogenic spectromicroscopy of single impurity molecules. Experimental studies were performed that established the microscopic nature of the formation of luminescence spectra of promising photonics materials: single colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals – quantum dots (luminescence flickering effect, spectral diffusion, temperature broadening of zero-phonon lines), diamonds with color centers (temperature broadening, spectral-spatial correlations). Ultrafast processes in glasses, polymers, and nanocomposites were studied, and a theoretical model of photon echo in low-temperature glasses was developed. Methods for ultrasensitive detection of surface-enhanced Raman scattering on special SERS-active surfaces were developed.
Andrei Naumov was born in the village of Lebyazhye, Kirov region. In 1991 he entered the Vyatka State Pedagogical University, and in 1996 he entered the full-time postgraduate program at Moscow State Pedagogical University. In 1997, he began working at the Institute of Spectroscopy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he worked his way up from an intern-graduate student to the Head of the Department of Condensed Matter Spectroscopy and Deputy Director for Research (2009-2017). In the period 2015-2020, Andrei Naumov represented the Russian Federation as an elected member of the Directorate of the Quantum Electronics and Optics Division of the European Physical Society, and in October 2024 he was elected Vice-President of the International Commission on Optics (ICO). Since 2014, he has headed the Shpolsky Department of Theoretical Physics at Moscow State Pedagogical University (MSPU). In 2016, Andrei Naumov was elected as a professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2022, as a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Physical Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences (PSD RAS). Since 2021, Andrei Naumov has been heading the Troitsk Branch of the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (TB LPI RAS).
Andrei Naumov is the author of more than 160 articles in leading scientific journals, 5 monographs, 9 teaching aids and 5 patents, and the scientific supervisor and consultant of 10 successfully defended PhD dissertations.
Andrei Naumov is the initiator and director of such events as the Troitsk School for Advanced Training of Physics Teachers (TSPT) and the All-Russian Quiz for Young Physicists of the PSD RAS. Within the framework of the TSPT, teachers of natural sciences from different regions of our country get acquainted with the leading scientific schools of the Russian Federation, institutes of the science city and unique experimental installations, get the opportunity to listen to lectures of outstanding scientists. The Quiz for Young Physicists of the PSD RAS in the format of non-standard questions and tasks introduces schoolchildren to professors and members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, their scientific schools, universities and research institutes. He is actively involved in the popularization of science by participating as the chairman of the jury in the Troitsk Physics Marathon “Step into Science”, the All-Russian Essay Championship “In Your Own Words”, giving popular science lectures in different cities of the country. Andrei Naumov is the Scientific Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Photonics Russia”, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Bulletin RAS: Physics”, member of the editorial boards of the journals “JETP Letters”, “Physics at School” and “Quantum Electronics”.
Scientific achievements of Andrei Naumov have been marked by a number of awards and prizes, such as the Medal of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences for young scientists, the International Wiley-VCH and Physica Status Solidi Prizes, the Academia Europaea Prize, the Certificate of Honor of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for significant achievements in the field of scientific, scientific-technical, innovative activities, a Letter of Gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation, twice laureate of the title «Person of the Year of the Science City of Troitsk» in the nominations «Science» and «Person and Society».
Congratulations to Andrei Naumov on his anniversary! We wish him good health, successful implementation of all his plans, inexhaustible energy and inspiration, confidence in the future and new scientific discoveries! Happy Birthday!
